Preparing Your Home for a Mini Poodle Puppy in Australia
The week before a puppy arrives is as important as the first week after. Preparation reduces stress for everyone and prevents preventable accidents with electrical cords, toxic plants, and unsecured balconies common in Australian homes.
Core supplies
Budget for a well-sized crate or pen, soft bedding, stainless bowls, a suitable harness and lead, puppy-safe toys, enzymatic cleaner, and a quality puppy food consistent with what the puppy has been eating. Abrupt food changes cause unnecessary tummy upset.
Book a vet appointment for soon after arrival, confirm microchip transfer steps, and note local council registration requirements for your state or territory.
Puppy-proofing indoors and out
Remove chewable cables, secure rubbish bins, and check for gaps under fences. Balconies need barriers a small puppy cannot slip through. Garages and sheds often hide snail bait and chemicals — store them completely out of reach.
In warmer months, ensure shade and fresh water; never leave a puppy in a car. In cooler southern regions, provide a warm, draught-free sleep area for the first nights.
First-week rhythm
Keep visitors limited at first so the puppy bonds with primary carers. Short toilet trips, nap schedules, and gentle handling build confidence. Socialisation should be positive and controlled — not overwhelming crowds on day two.
We provide care notes with every placement. Use them, then lean on lifetime support when questions arise. Consistency in the first fortnight sets the tone for house manners and trust.
